STA Travel's outstanding commitment to the Australian tourism industry was rewarded yesterday when they picked up the top award at the Australian Travel and Tourism Awards, the Ozcars 2007, at a ceremony in West London.
In winning the Ultimate Ozcar 2007, STA Travel was commended for its understanding of its audience, wide range of products, sales growth, use of technology and innovation throughout its campaigns - which include podcasts, blogs, viral as well as user generated content. The specialist youth and budget travel company also won the award for Best Website Promoting Australia for its www.MostFun.TV viral website and was also Highly Commended in this category for its www.MapMyAdventure.com website.
STA Travel's commitment to marketing Australia resulted in 86,000 passengers travelling to Australia with the company in 2006, an increase of 12% on the previous year.
This was the third Ultimate Ozcar in a row for STA Travel's UK Managing Director, John Constable, who joined the company in March 2006 from Austravel.
John Constable said: "This award is very special to STA Travel as the company's roots are in Australia. Australia remains our top destination and we are continually looking for innovative and effective ways to showcase what Australia has to offer and support our suppliers on the ground. We are delighted to have been recognised for our product and innovation, as well as our strong sales growth into Australia."
STA Travel also launched an Australia podcast in 2006, which was given a 5 star rating by itunes and on launch was the top rated travel podcast.
