After an incredible three years of planning, preparation and anticipation, the countdown is on until World Youth Day, taking place in Sydney, Australia.
What is World Youth Day?
World Youth Day is the Catholic Church's week of events for youth and with youth. It gathers thousands of young people from around the world to celebrate and learn about the Catholic faith and to build bridges of friendship and hope between continents, peoples and cultures.
Through the WYD08 experience, young people from throughout the world will make a pilgrimage in faith, meet, and experience hospitality and the love of God.
WYD08 will be the occasion of the first visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Australia. An estimated 500,000 people are expected to attend at least one event during the week.
When is it?
World Youth Day takes place in Sydney and actually consists of many events that last for more than just one day! It officially begins on Tuesday 15th July 2008 with an Opening Mass of welcome celebrated by George Cardinal Pell, followed by a concert.
