Taipei is fast becoming one of Asia's most vivacious cities. Explore all the sights before partying the night away!
Taiwan's capital Taipei is fast becoming one of Asia’s most vivacious and bustling cities. Crammed with world-class attractions, lively nightlife and some of the finest Chinese cuisine our planet has to offer, it has two distinct areas. The western part of the city is the historical centre, containing key sights such as the Longshan, Confucius and Baoan Temples, whilst the eastern area is thoroughly modern. Until this year, Taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world.
Markets
A visit to Taipei is not complete without a visit to a night market. Snake Alley is Taipei’s most famous, filled with clothing boutiques, sweet and snack shops, massage stands and the infamous snake handlers (if you're feeling brave!). Other popular markets worth a visit are the Holiday Jade Market and Dihua Street, crammed with historic architecture and a good place to find Chinese medicine. The Guangua Market is a computer hardware market, selling every technological item from ipods to TVs.
Nightlife
Taipei is a lively hot spot for nightlife. The area around Shuangcheng Street, near the Imperial Hotel is commonly known as ‘Sugar Daddy Row’ or ‘The Zone’. Here, the bars and clubs are close together, making it a social haven and offering the perfect opportunity to partake in some serious bar-hopping. The nightclubs attract DJs from all over the world, and there are hundreds of Chinese restaurants. Taipei also has more Japanese restaurants than any city outside Japan!
