There is only one road that leads to the spiritual home of Australian surfing - The Great Ocean Road.
Winding along the coast west of Melbourne, the Great Ocean Road offers stunning ocean views, pristine beaches, sunken shipwrecks and laid back coastal towns. This is the perfect place to leave everyday life behind.
The Great Ocean Road leads to Bells Beach - a place steeped in surf history and is arguably the most famous surf spot on the continent. Bells Beach has become more than just a wave, it is part of surfing's soul and surfing folklore and the birthplace of the Rip Curl Brand.
The Rip Curl Pro is held here annually in April and is Australia's longest running and most prestigious professional surfing event. Bells Beach notoriety was set in stone in 1991, when it was featured in the cult surf movie Point Break.
The region is also a great place to learn how to surf. There are a number of excellent learn to surf schools along the coast and most beginners find themselves standing on a board by the end of a two-hour session.
The World Championship Tour kicked off in Australia earlier this year, with the pros taking to the spiritual home of Australian surfing, Bells Beach, in April. Check out the footage from this year’s Rip Curl Pro event at Bells Beach and whet your appetite for a summer of surf.
