There are startling views to be had from the hills of the Lykavitós, and the winding streets of Pláka reveal gardened tavernas and offbeat museums. If you can, visit the Sunday flea market around Monastiráki Square.

From Eleftherios Venizelos airport at Spáta take either the #E94 express bus to the last metro stop, Ethnikí Ámyna, and then continue into town, or take #E95 (this is your only option from midnight till 6am). Taxis are also an option, though it isn’t the quickest way into the city.
