The Explorer Family History
The Explorer family were all born with itchy feet. Mum headed off to Latin America in search of adventure during the swinging sixties, Dad was more of a beach bum, choosing the surf and golden beaches of the East Coast of Oz. It all started in the summer of 69, when they met each other on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
A few years later, after much more travelling in Asia, Australasia, Africa and the Americas it was time to settle down. That’s where I, Ed Explorer, made my first appearance into the world, a little bundle of Explorer joy, born just after they both hit 35. Always one to make a grand entrance, Isabelle Explorer, my little sis arrived as Mum and Dad were celebrating their four year anniversary on the third floor of the Eiffel Tower (hence the name Isabelle – and yes, she is a beauty).
Life in the Explorer household was always full of adventure and fun and I soon caught the travel bug. Although at times I’d be taunted with chants of ‘where’s your head Ed?!’, I knew that life as an upside down Explorer was far more exciting than that of my peers who just got stuck in a 9-5 rut and only ever made it out of the UK on a stag do in Benidorm.
Mum and Dad’s friend’s at STA Travel sorted me out with a great round the world trip for my gap year, complete with volunteering project, bungee jumps, scuba diving and safaris. After studying Human Anthropology at uni I couldn’t wait to get back out there and see more of our amazing planet. Next on my list was Sydney and Thailand, and they certainly didn’t disappoint. But of course, an Explorer needs to make a living and it was soon time for me to find a job. There was no way my work would get in the way of my adventures though and with STA Travel’s exclusive flight deals I was able to holiday in Egypt and Las Vegas and still have enough annual leave (and money!) left to go and see the family at Christmas
So here ends my story, well I say ends but I’ve got a fair few years to go before I hit 35 so there’s plenty more travelling to be done. And this is where I need your help! Check out all the different ways you can get involved above.
Happy travels,
Ed
