About South Australia

Check out South Australia for an unforgettable adventure. With something for every taste & budget, a visit should definitely be on your ‘to do’ list. And if you run out of money, South Australia is also a really great place to work.

My favourite experience...
"Sandboarding on Kangaroo Island was pretty epic! You run all the way up to the top of the humungous dunes (cue a Kodak moment) and then jump on top of a surfboard whooshing down as fast as your legs and toes and paddles/arms can carry you. You’ll be absolutely covered in sand by the end of it but it was so much fun. Our group was in fits of giggles for hours and hours. Brilliant!.. " Steph, Blackpool

The Weather
The South Australia climate varies. It ranges from desert-like conditions in the north to a more mild Mediterranean climate along its coast. In the desert area, rain is rare and temperatures get up pretty high. In January it’ll be around 29°C but will drop to only 15°C in July. Along the coast, summers are warm and dry and winters are cold and wet, whilst spring and autumn are mild and pleasant. Daily temperatures in parts of the state in Jan and Feb can soar up to 48°C.

Perfect Picture
The Flinders Ranges, Wilpena Pound and the really Remarkable Rocks on Kangaroo Island. You better figure out how to work the panorama setting - so many cool formations, so little time...

Useful Info
The Adelaide Central Market is the largest produce market in the Southern Hemisphere - those who love food could wander around it for hours. This giant-sized farmer’s market is located right in downtown Adelaide - prepare for oodles of the freshest food you’ll ever see.

Useless Info
A pie floater is a traditional Australian-style meat pie sitting, usually inverted, in a plate of thick green pea soup. It is typically covered with tomato sauce and, subject to the taste of the individual consumer, mint sauce and salt and pepper are traditionally added to complement the dish.

Try before you fly...
The Barossa Valley is home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world. Make sure you check out some of what Australia’s most famous wine region has to offer!
