The 'Real' Chiang Mai

I am 18 years old and had never travelled this far with only one friend before. For our first 2 nights in Thailand, it was the perfect place to stay as it was comfortable and in a remote area and it was a great place for us to get a good nights sleep and get rid of the jet lag! However, once we moved on to staying in hostels we realised that even though the quality of the accommodation was no where near as good, the atmosphere was so much better in cheaper places! Because of our age, we were happy to be around other young people so that we could make friends and also hear from fellow backpackers the experiences they've had and it was great for those sort of people to give you advice on what to do on our travels. As I said, I was very happy to stay at Centara Duangtawan for our first few nights and the location was good however, I would not recommend the hotel if you want to experience the backpacker feel and the 'real Chiang Mai'.

The outside pool area was great to relax by, had a bar next to pool and a spa area. From the pool terrace there was a great view of Chiang Mai. The hotel was really clean and had a variety of restuarants to eat in if you didn't want to venture out. Probably best suited for couples and families rather than backpackers though.
