Bahrain Travel Advice- Added 13th April 2012-Current 23rd May

The Foreign Office have updated the travel advice for Bahrain:

Demonstrations and protests continue across various parts of Bahrain, some of which are violent.  We cannot confirm where or when any such activity or resulting disruption will take place, but you should maintain a high level of security awareness, exercise caution, particularly in public places and on the roads, and avoid large crowds and demonstrations.

The Government of Bahrain has imposed a curfew on the waterways around Bahrain between 18:00 and 04:00. You are strongly advised to respect the curfew.

Passengers arriving at Bahrain Airport may experience delays at immigration due to more stringent checks being carried out by officials. Also, the Bahraini authorities have indicated that visa requirements for foreign nationals, including British Citizens, may change soon. British visitors are advised to check the website of the Bahraini Embassy in London for updates.

Egypt Demonstrations - Updated 21st February Updated 23rd May

The Foreign Office continue to update their travel advice for Egypt. Please see an extract of the advice below:

The first round of Presidential elections is due to take place on 23 and 24 May in locations all over Egypt. There may be increased security measures during this period, especially near polling stations. We advise British Nationals to stay away from polling stations on these dates.

Due to the significant increase in the risk of criminal activity in the North Sinai area, we advise against all but essential travel to Sinai north of the Suez-Taba road. This includes the road itself, but does not apply to the towns of Suez or Taba. . See Safety and Security – Local Travel – Border Areas.

There are frequent large-scale demonstrations, often on Fridays, in Tahrir Square, Cairo. Demonstrations also often take place elsewhere in Cairo, as well as other cities in Egypt, including Alexandria.

Protestors remain in Tahrir Square in Cairo although vehicle access is not currently restricted. Mohammed Mahmoud and Shaikh Rihan Streets both remain blocked off and Qasr al Aini is also blocked near Tahrir Square. There is an increased risk of transport delays due to traffic congestion around central Cairo.

British nationals should avoid all crowds and demonstrations.

Kenya Travel Advice- Added 12th September- Current 23rd May

The Foreign Office have updated their Travel Advice for Kenya. They continue to advise against all but essential travel to within 60km of the Somali border but no longer advise against travel to coastal areas within 150km of the Kenya-Somalia border, including Kiwayu and coastal areas of north Pate Island.  They continue to advise against all but essential travel to low income areas of Nairobi, including all township or slum areas:

We advise against all but essential travel within 60km of the Kenya-Somalia border (including Kiwayu and coastal areas north of Pate Island) and to Garissa District due to the threat of kidnap and continuing instability in these areas.

There is a high threat of kidnapping in the areas within 60km of the Somali border and in Garissa District. Travel Advice for Syria - Updated 2nd March- Current 23rd May

The Foreign Office have updated their travel advice for Syria to state that British Nationals should leave the country now by commercial means whilst these are still operating. Please read the extract below:

On 1 March 2011, the Foreign Secretary announced his decision to withdraw all remaining UK diplomatic staff from Syria and suspend the services of the British Embassy in Damascus with immediate effect. This decision was based on the deteriorating security situation in country.

We advise against all travel to the Syrian Arab Republic. British nationals in Syria should leave now by commercial means whilst these are still available. Those who choose to remain in Syria or to visit against our very clear advice should be aware that we are not able to provide normal consular services nor are we able to organise or assist your evacuation from the country. If, despite our advice to leave now, you choose to travel to Syria, or stay there, make sure you and your family have a valid exit stamp on your travel documents if you need one.

British nationals requiring urgent consular assistance should contact the Embassy of any EU member state in Damascus. Alternatively British nationals can contact the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on +44 20 7008 1500 or e-mail ConsularEnquiries.Damascus@fco.gov.uk for consular enquiries.
