My favourite experience
"While sailing the Whitsundays, we stumbed across an impromptu wedding on Whitehaven Beach. We woke up one morning to see a bride, groom, seaplane pilot (who doubled as a vicar) and a little girl with flowers in her hair walking the distant pristine shores. It was the perfect location for the perfect wedding. One day that might be me - but until then being single on the East Coast of Oz suits me just fine!" Stacy, Chelmsford

The Weather
Nicknamed the Sunshine State, Queensland enjoys warm weather pretty much all year long. Since it’s pretty darn big, there is some climate variation. Low rainfall and hot summers are typical for the inland west, there is a monsoonal ‘wet’ season in the far north, and warm temperate conditions along the coastal strip. Further inland and south it’s a bit cooler. The coastal strip is influenced by warm ocean waters, keeping the region free from extremes of temperature and providing moisture for rainfall.

Perfect picture
Lake Mckenzie on Fraser Island is pretty much the perfect shot. That, or a quirky bit of metal hanging outm of Maheno ship wreck. But then there is always the classic skydive thumbs up. Maybe a little cheesy but very, very cool.

Useful Info
The state was named in honour of Queen Victoria, who on the 6th of June 1859 signed a proclamation separating the state from New South Wales. At the time, Victoria was a generally popular monarch, and she preferred an eponymous name for the new colony over Cooksland. So now you know!

Useless Info
The people of Queensland are colloquially known as ‘Banana Benders’ possibly because of the
large banana plantations in the tropics. Queensland is served by a number of national highways and, particularly in south east Queensland, high quality motorways such as the M1. Hmm...interesting.

Try before you fly...
You only have to pop in ‘Finding Nemo’ for a chance to meet your soon-to-be new best friends. Animation for the animated!
