Volunteer in the history-steeped city of Cuzco, nestled deep in the Andes mountains. Surrounded by ancient Incan ruins, you'll work with children, teenagers and young adults helping them develop and strengthen their skills through art, sports, music, science, theatre and games. Your trip also includes two days' adrenaline activities - quad biking, rafting and ziplining - and a four-day trek to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. For the final four days of your trip you'll delve deep in to the heart of the Amazon, staying in eco-lodges, motorboating under suspension bridges and visiting animal rescue projects.

Day 1: Cuzco

Arrive in Cuzco and transfer to your accommodation. Acclimatise to the altitude with a cup of coca-leaf tea and a stroll around the city and enjoy an afternoon project briefing.

Day 2 - 5: Volunteering Project

Tuesday to Thursday you'll volunteer from 9.30am to 5.30 pm in a San Jeronimo school just 30 minutes from Cuzco. What you get involved in depends on your skill set and experience but general responsibilities include teaching English, reading, and leading creative activities with music, art and games.

Day 6: Cuzco Sightseeing

Volunteer in the morning and tour the cobblestoned centre of the world in the afternoon. Tick off the former Incan capital's ancient citadels, fortresses and amphitheatre.

Day 7: Sacred Valley

Get picked up and head for the hills of Cruz Pata. Hit the dirt roads on a thrilling quad bike tour, splashing through mud puddles as you motor across fields and villages towards Moray. Take in the Sacred Valley's intriguing Incan circular crop terraces and visit a local salt mine before returning to Cuzco.

Day 8: Vilcanota Valley

Get picked up and enjoy a scenic drive to Oropesa, a tiny Andean town famous for its homemade bread. More high-octane thrills follow with an afternoon's white water rafting on the rapids of Vilcanota River, finishing up with a zipline ride. Then it's back to Cuzco.

Day 9 - 10: Volunteering Project

Pick up where you left off in Cuzco, enjoying your last two days at the volunteering project. Say your goodbyes to smiling faces on Day 10.

Day 11 -13: Machu Picchu Trek

Depending on permit availability, take a 50km Inca Trail along original stone staircases or a Lares trek through local Inca villages up to the sacred city of Machu Picchu.

Day 14: Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes

Rise early to catch the sunrise and take a historical, guided walking tour of the city. Transfer by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch before catching the train to Ollantaytambo where you'll board the return bus to Cuzco.

Day 15: Cuzco

Free day to explore the narrow streets and bohemian neighbourhoods of San Blas.

Day 16: Volunteering Project

Wave goodbye to the children on your last day at the Cuzco volunteering project and prepare for your night bus to Puerto Maldonado in the Amazon Jungle.

Day 17: Amazon Jungle Eco-Lodge

When the whole group have arrived in Puerto Maldonado, you'll boat trip down the Madre de Dios River, through the heart of the jungle towards your Amazonian eco-lodge. Settle in to your private bungalow and take a guided walk around the surrounding area before a typical jungle dinner.

Day 18: Amazon Jungle

After breakfast, trek along trails via tree platforms towards the highest viewpoint in the canopy of the Amazon rainforest (45m high and connected via a 90m long suspension bridge). Catch a glimpse of flying toucans and parrots before continuing on to the animal rescue centre where you may encounter a jaguar, puma, toucans, macaws, spider monkeys, tapirs and more. Stop off at a butterfly house, visit a turtle project and stumble across artificial beaches. Return to your lodge in an inflatable boat, perfect for spotting monkeys, birds and the spectacular river sunset. The brave can end the day searching for Caiman alligators in a moonlit motorboat!

Day 19: Puerto Maldonado

Enjoy an early breakfast and return to Puerto Maldonado via a scenic boat trip down the Madre de Dios river. When you get back, the day is yours to browse local markets, jump on a motortaxi and dine on fresh delicacies. Then it's to the airport for your return flight.

Day 20: Cuzco

Free day in Cuzco to grab your last minute souvenirs.

Day 21: Flight Home

Transfer to the airport where your trip ends.
