Day 1: Shanghai
You'll arrive in Shanghai and make your way to your first accommodation point, where you can take your time settling in and meeting your new travel buddies for the next two weeks. Use the evening as a chance to get to know each other, and the city, by going out for a delicious dinner at one of Shanghai's many restaurants.
Day 2: Shanghai
Spend the day visiting all that Shanghai has to offer. Visit the French Concession, Xintiandi, The Bund and Nanjing Lu, See the skyscrapers in Pudong, catch a show, go shopping or enjoy the nightlife
Day 3: Shanghai to Suzhou
Suzhou - Wander through the UNESCO listed gardens, or take a boat trip along the canals of this picture perfect city
Days 4-6: Suzhou to Nanjing
Today you'll head to Nanjing, where you will be based for the next three days. Being the former capital of China, it's a greatplace to absorb some more Chinese history and culture. Take your time visiting any of the many museums, temples and other historical sites - follow your guide on a pre-arranged tour, plus there will be plenty of free time to explore in your own way as well. By night, there's just as much to keep you occupied - go out and paint the town red at any of the late-night bars found in the 1912 bar district.
Day 7: Nanjing to Qufu
It's time to move on to Qufu, the home town of the ancient philosopher, and one of the most important and influential figures in Chinese culture, Confucius. Visit all the historic city sites with tours and assistance from your guide, or at your leisure. This is a great town in which to get a feel of the 'real' China - no skyscrapers here, just a beautiful village atmosphere.
Days 8-10: Qufu to Qingdao
Today you'll arrive in the beachside town of Qingdao, where you'll be staying the next three nights. Upon arrival, you're free to start sightseeing as you wish - or just kick back and relax! Over the next three days, you'll be able to explore Qingdao at your own pace, while the drinkers among you won't want to miss the Qingdao Beer Factory Tour, home of China's most famous beer, Tsingtao. You also have the option to visit the top of Laoshan Mountain, a famous Buddhist site.
Days 11: Qingdao to Beijing
Catch the bullet train to Beijing in the morning, and get ready to hit the bustling capital for all its worth - you've got three full days here, so make the most of it!
Day 12: Beijing to the Great Wall
Today, there will be a full day tour out to the Great Wall - a must for any visitor to China, where you can spend time walking along a section out in the countryside. We spend the night out in the shadows of the wall along with a fantastic local feast.
Day 13: The Great Wall to Beijing
After an opportunity to see the sunrise or spend some more time on the wall, we head back to Beijing to take in sights such as Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. There are endless options of how to spend the final night with your travelling companions.
Day 14: Beijing
With your trip completed, you're free to continue sightseeing or move on to your next destination as you wish. Your trip leader can help arrange further transport or accommodation if required. STA181
