Head through the heart of Australia on an epic three week adventure from Sydney to Darwin. It’ll be a welcome change from the irresistible excesses of the East Coast beaches. Be prepared for stunning rugged coastal beauty between Sydney and Adelaide and the mystical wonder of the Red Centre. Finish up right at the top of the country – with some fantastic exploring in the Australian tropics around Kakadu.
  • Day 1: Sydney to Thredbo

    Head into the Alpine hills of NSW, but first, check out Canberra, Australia’s capital city. In ski season (Jun-Sep) stay in Jindabyne (D)

  • Day 2: Thredbo to Lakes Entrance

    Grab your hiking boots! Today you can either walk to the summit of Australia’s highest mountain, Mt Kosciuszko, or to the viewing point. Tonight, stay at Lakes Entrance. (B, D)

  • Day 3: Lakes Entrance to Melbourne

    Hike and explore Wilsons Promontory National Park - Australia’s most southerly point. Walk along gleaming beaches, watch the pounding ocean and look out for emus and wombats. (B)

  • Day 4: Melbourne to Port Campbell

    Stop at Bells Beach and head along the stunning Great Ocean Road to the seaside towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay. Check out Otway’s rainforest before a sunset over the Twelve Apostles. (L, D)

  • Day 5: Port Campbell to Grampians National Park

    Walk down the Gibson Steps on to the beach for a different view of the Twelve Apostles, or opt for a helicopter ride. Watch for whales as you pass Warrnambool, then head inland to the Grampians National Park. (B, L, D)

  • Days 6-7: Halls Gap to Adelaide

    Hike at Hollow Mountain and the amazing MacKenzie Falls. See rare White Western Grey Kangaroos at Bordertown, then cross the Murray River before arriving into Adelaide. Day 7 is free to explore South Australia’s capital. (B, L)

  • Days 8-9: Adelaide to Quorn

    Travel through the Clare Valley to Quorn, a historical railway township. This afternoons hike takes you to the summit of Dutchman’s Stern for 360° views of the Finders Ranges! On day 9, explore Wilpena Pound. Admire Aboriginal rock art and try to spot the elusive Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies in Warren Gorge. (B, 2L, 2D)

  • Day 10: Quorn to Coober Pedy

    Drive through Port Augusta to Coober Pedy. Your bunkhouse for tonight is underground! (B, L, D)

  • Day 11: Coober Pedy to Marla

    Check out an opal mine with a chance to go ‘noodling’. Drive to Marla township. (B, L, D)

  • Days 12-13: Marla to Uluru & Kings

    Discover the secrets of Kata Tjuta on a hike and be mesmerised by the desert sunset as you curl up in your swag under the stars. In the morning watch the sunrise over Uluru & walk around the base. An Aboriginal guide will share family stories of the Mala people before heading to your camp with in Kings Canyon. (2B, 2L, 2D)

  • Days 14-15: Kings Canyon to Alice Springs

    Admire the beauty of Kings Canyon as you trek through the Amphitheatre on your way to Alice. Day 15 is free to explore the town. (B, L)

  • Day 16: Alice to Banka Banka

    Stop at Barrow Creek pub and see the historic Telegraph Station. Check out the Devils Marbles en route to Banka Banka Cattle Station. (L, D)

  • Day 17: Banka Banka to Katherine Gorge

    Stop for a beer at the famed Daly Waters pub. Soak in Mataranka’s steamy thermal springs deep in the heart of the ‘Never-Never’. (B, L, D)

  • Day 18: Katherine Gorge to Darwin

    Spend the morning exploring the gorge by kayak or helicopter! Head to Darwin after a stop at idyllic Edith Falls. (B, L)

  • Day 19: Darwin to Mary River

    Cool down under the Litchfield National Park waterfalls. Travel into Woolna Country and experience the local Aboriginal Culture, cooking your own bush tucker. End the day at the spectacular Mary River Wetlands - keep your eyes out for lurking crocodiles! (L, D)

  • Day 20: Kakadu National Park

    Discover ancient rock art and enjoy fabulous views over the Nardab floodplain. Swim in the plunge pools at Barramundi Gorge. (B, L, D)

  • Day 21: Kakadu to Darwin

    Take a 4WD adventure to Jim Jim and Twin Falls and head back to Darwin by afternoon. (B, L)
