Dorm beds in hostels cost between $25 and $40 per night. Budget motels would be around $60 to $80 for a double.
A double room in a 3 star hotel can be between $100 and $250 per night.
The simple answer is that it's a perfect year round destination and when you visit totally depends on what type of trip you're after. In case you hadn't noticed, the USA is pretty darn big so the weather can vary quite a bit from state to state. Prices tend to be highest during the school summer holiday (July/August) and at Christmas, so travel during off peak times.
