The Gauntlet [30th April 2012]

It’s ba-aaaaack! The Gauntlet is here and ready to take two more intrepid travellers, as they each answer five questions and put their travel knowledge to the test. One of our customers vs one of our staff – who’ll come out on top? Let’s find out!

Want to run the Gauntlet? Ooh, you’re brave! Just drop us an email, and we’ll get back to you with five travel questions to answer.

Now, let’s meet this week’s Gauntleters.

Running The Gauntlet this week, it’s…

Business Development Executive in our Manchester office, Thanh Luu! Here’s Thanh rocking festival chic at Glastonbury last year.

Here to rival Thanh is travel lover Greg from Norwich. Here he is enjoying a baseball game with his mates in Toronto:

Let’s open The Gauntlet

Thanh, Greg – step inside! Coming up are five of the toughest travel questions you’ll ever have to answer (really). Enter at your peril…

Where’s next on your travel wishlist? Australia – more specifically, the Great Barrier reef. Having sold so many OZ products over the years as an consultant, it seems rather strange that I can reel of ‘what to see and do’ in Australia, but have never actually been in person! This will be rectified this summer thanks to STA Travel. Uluru is also on my wish list: number 1, for the scenery, and number 2, there’s a chance I might to bump into Andy ‘the hottie’ aka the star of our MOVE video.

South America, specifically Brazil and Chile, has been on my travel wishlist for a while and I’m hoping to make it over there for the Football World Cup in 2014 if not before. I’m a big football fan so South America would be an amazing destination to go to.
Where’s your perfect weekend destination? Spilt, Croatia. Everything is cheap and you can explore/party on land or water..bargin! I recently went to Prague in the Czech Republic for a long weekend and it was incredible! Prague is a really beautiful city with the castle and Old Square but it also has a huge party scene and prices are cheap compared to the UK. We managed to get some cheap flights over the Czech Republic and we had a really fun, affordable weekend, although we returned home a little worse for wear!
Backpacker or flashpacker? I’m a flashpacker. Definitely backpacker. I try not to use computers or phones when I go abroad, but this is becoming increasingly hard as I really enjoy keeping up with my travel blog! I enjoy travelling on the cheap and searching around for the best deals. It’s all part of the travelling experience.
Which stamp in your passport is your favourite? Guatamala because of the intricate Mayan detail of the stamp. It looks pretty in your passport and brings back great memories of a beautiful country. Probably my two US J-1 visa stamps that have allowed me to work at a summer camp in America for the last two summers. They take up the whole page and have stamps on top of them. I had a great time working at my summer camp and the stamps are a reminder of that.
Flying solo, as a two, or a crew? As a two. When you hit a crossroad and need to know what route to take, it’s nice to have a mate around to help you decide. I’ve done a lot of travelling by myself and within a large group and there are advantages to both, but I always feel that sharing an experience with someone is what makes that experience special. Travelling with people you know can also be better for meeting new people, but the main disadvantage is not being able to do exactly what you want which can be frustrating at times.

Thanh, Greg – you’ve run the Gauntlet, and you’ve not only made it out alive, but with your travel street cred firmly intact. Thanks for taking part, guys!
