A round the world trip should be an adventure. It’s a time to do things you’ve never done before, and see sights you never dreamed of seeing. It’s a time to be daring. To take risks. To be courageous. To go… wild.
Here at STA Travel, we know all this. So we got our thinking caps on. Then we put our travel planning hats on. And finally, we put ourselves in your place. And we came up with our wildest round the world route yet. It’s called (funnily enough) Wild at Heart.
Nairobi. Johannesburg. Bangkok. Hanoi. Hong Kong. Beijing. Amazing destinations in their own right. But they’re also all gateways to some of the world’s most unexplored territories.
Take Wild at Heart on our Tripline below, and see for yourself what an adventure this round the world trip can be.
Looks pretty amazing, right? Well, that’s only the beginning. Here are some ideas to make Wild at Heart a really wild adventure.
Land in Nairobi
Your first stop puts you slap, bang in the middle of Africa’s wilderness. There’s only one thing for it: get stuck in. You want lions and tigers and wildebeasts (oh my!)? Then go on safari, baby!
Find your wild side in Africa
Head to the Serengeti and spot the Big Five, and seek out even more amazing wildlife on the Ngorongoro Crater (try saying that after a few pints!). This is what Africa’s all about, and it’s all included, conveniently, in our 27-day Nairobi to Joburg Adventure. Beautiful wildlife, sleeping under the stars, Victoria Falls, the beaches of Zanzibar… it’s all part of this epic overland adventure.
Screech to a halt in Johannesburg
2,900km of African amazingness later, and you’ll find yourself in Joburg. This is an awesome city, and it’s the perfect base to explore the rest of South Africa.
Grab a hop-on hop-off bus pass, and hit the road! You could make your way to Cape Town, stopping of at Durban and Port Elizabeth on the way to soak up the culture. Just remember to get back to Joburg to catch your flight. Why? Asia is calling…
Big it up in Bangkok
Heaving streets, amazing smells of street food, cries of “same same but different” – you can only be Bangkok. The utterly unique heart of Southeast Asia is the ultimate gateway to adventure. From here, the world is quite literally your oyster.
From Bangkok, Asia is on your doorstep
Head north and explore the hill tribes and temples of northern Thailand. Head south to the beaches, or even further down to Malaysia and Singapore, on our Roam Bangkok to Singapore tour. You even could take some time to explore Cambodia, do some volunteering teaching children English – what could be a bigger adventure than that?
From here, you could explore Vietnam and go up into Laos, before zigzagging your way up to Vietnam’s capital city.
Whatever you decide, make sure you spend a few days in Hanoi. It’s a brilliant city, full of culture, tastes and smells that will blow your mind. Our Live like a Local in Hanoi tour is a great way to explore the city.
Hello Hong Kong
Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore. Say hello to Hong Kong, the gateway to your China adventure. The best way to get yourself up to Beijing? Two words: Roam China.
Immerse yourself in everything that China has to offer
Join this 18-day adventure tour and let our awesome tour leaders show you all the sights, plus some that only the locals know about. Your transport and accommodation will be sorted, so there’s no need to rely on your Mandarin to arrange that. Sit back, but don’t relax – in China, there’s something to see at every step, a new culture shock round every corner. You wouldn’t want to miss that now, would you?
Roaaaaar! Hope that’s helped you to discover your inner adventurer. Remember, these are just a few ideas of how you can turn Wild at Heart into your own wild adventure. We’ve got loads of adventure tours, day trips, bus and rail passes, as well as volunteering programmes, all over the world. It’s your adventure, so make it your own.
