I say Australia. You say Sydney. I say Sydney. You say Bondi Beach. And so the story goes, for 1000s of British travellers every year. That famous slab of golden sands being washed over by the bright blue arcs rolling in off the Tasman Sea is as iconic as NYC’s Central Park or the Holy Ganges of Varanasi.
And here’s an opportunity you won’t want to pass up … you could WIN a paid job on Bondi Beach!
That’s right, as part of our Live Like an Aussie campaign, we’re giving away seven dream jobs, including the chance to work as a social media guru on the hallowed sands!
If you win the job, you’ll be hanging out on Bondi Beach, while taking photos and checking in on Facebook and Twitter for local surf school, Let’s Go Surfing.
Coming up, I’ll explain a little more about this amazing opportunity, plus, I’ll give you a snapshot of what else is on offer for working holiday makers in New South Wales.
Win a job as a Photographer & Social Media Guru on Bondi Beach!
The prize includes the requisite 12-month Working Holiday Visa, meaning you can work for an entire year (entrants must be eligible) in Australia.
On top of this, you’ll take up a 1-month paid temporary position with a local surf school, based on the legendary Bondi Beach. And when we say paid, we don’t mean minimum wage — this job comes with a salary of over £12 per hour!
But wait, there’s more! The winner of this incredible competition will receive return flights to Australia for free and we’ll slap a ‘Sydney Surf Pass’ in their back burner, entitling them to 5 two hour surfing lessons, including board hire.
You could be working in a job, very similar to this!
That’s right guys, this prize has it all — you’ll be living and breathing the Aussie lifestyle each and every day.
The job will see you join the team as official surf school photographer and social media guru, and spread the word about the world famous Bondi Beach surf scene.
Of course, you’ll need to be someone that loves taking photos and is active on social sites such as Facebook, blogs and YouTube to boost the school’s online profile presence — but don’t worry, we’re not looking for verified experts! Passion is the key to this dream.
How to enter the competition
We want to offer everyone (eligible for an Aussie working holiday visa) the chance to win, so we’ve made it incredibly easy. No interviews. No paperwork. No CV.
All you need to do, is visit the STA Travel Facebook Page, where Ned & Norma, our buzzy “career advisers” await. They’ll walk you through a fun entry process (don’t worry, no skills necessary!) and make sure you get your name in the running for the chance to win this working holiday in Australia.
Visit our Live Like an Aussie app on Facebook, click ‘Enter’, and select New South Wales (the chunk of purple in the bottom right) and follow the instructions.
It will take you less than a minute, and it could end up being the best thing you do today … surf’s up!
Working Holidays in New South Wales
With Sydney at its core, New South Wales remains one of Australia’s most popular destinations for British working holiday makers, with no less than 74% of Brits visiting the shining state.
Aside from Sydney, the state is made up of ambling towns and beautiful countryside. As a gateway to Australia, many people get stuck in the friendly folds of New South Wales, not least because of the fantastic career opportunities on offer to travellers. Some of the main industries include: health and nursing, hospitality, IT and the public service.
In rural NSW, expect a plethora of opps in traditional backpacking jobs, including fruit picking and farm work, engineering, agriculture, manufacturing and new industries such as aquaculture.
Sydney remains a world class destination for international students, with some of the country’s most forward thinking campuses.
For fruit picking jobs, you’ll find grape pruning throughout the winter months, May to October, but be quick, these jobs go fast! The pickers congregate on NSW throughout most of the rest of the year, meaning New South Wales is well equipped for hiring keen workers.
There are plenty of other crops to pick and gather, including apples and cherries, avocados, melons, tomatoes, and asparagus — and that’s just the start! Also look out for the wool harvesting jobs, for an authentic inroad into a true blue Aussie lifestyle.
