Note from the Editor: Since we published this blog post, Oz Experience have changed their direction. They no longer feature Driver Guides on their buses, but they still retain what they’re really famous for: providing an awesome way to travel Australia’s East Coast with incredible experiences along the way. Speak to your Travel Expert in store, or on the phone, for full details about how this might affect the Oz Experience product from now (March 2013) onwards.
There are a few things in life regarded as a ‘right of passage’ and an epic few months discovering all the fun to be had during a trip to Aus is definitely one of them.
Cruise around Australia is the ultimate gap trip experience – drinking, dancing, trying out exciting things you’ve never done before, meeting new people and maybe even finding the love of your life (or a holiday romance at least) as you go.
We’ve pinned down an Oz Experience driver guide Jimmy and got him to explain why he loves driving travellers around Australia and why he thinks you should get a piece of the action.
Grab your sunnies and your sense of adventure and delve head first into a taste of the crazy life of an Oz Experience driver guide…
Jimmy Uncle Buck 37 Liverpool in the western suburbs of Sydney. I’m what the Aussies call a westie! 4 years Every week I get to surf, dive and shoot guns with cool peeps that have never done any of these things ever…until the ride with us that is! I was appointed water boy for the wet t-shirt competition at Cheeky Monkeys in Byron Bay, well it was my birthday! Being chased by a cassowary at Lacey Lacey Creek. There are less than 1,000 of them left in the wild so I guess he was looking for a mate when I rocked up; well I reckon I’d chase me out of there too! Cairns is tops! It’s like our massive backyard with heaps of action packed stuff to do like scuba diving, snorkelling, sky diving, mountain biking, white water rafting, cable water skiing, kite surfing bungy jumping and even jungle surfing. Plus there’s heaps of crazy stuff like crocodiles, cassowarys and box jelly fish. It’s one massive adventure up top, down under! Munich, Germany. Home to the worlds biggest beer fest! Great food, awesome beer, Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and of course the locals in Dirndls. Munich. My perfect passenger would be Red Dog. He’s one of the most famous dogs in Oz. He is well travelled and loves riding buses. He even has his own movie. In fact I don’t think it’ll take him long to round everyone up, when we have more cool stuff to do. We are a bunch of mate who love Oz and really enjoy what we do. So if you want a road trip but don’t want to drive, we can take you to see some cool stuff on the highway, like the Bundaberg run factory, famous surf beaches and take you swimming in amazing waterfalls and lakes. In fact our busses will have around 20 free inclusions like National Park visits, surf lessons and even a goat rodeo between Sydney and Cairns. So grab ya goat and c’mon! Imagine a car full of clowns at a circus! That’s how many Wombats I’d like on my bus. Wombats are curious, excitable and very funny – just how I like my passengers. I’d dodge the flaming galah cause that is usually me every other day. I’d definitely save the 6 pack of Fozzies, you just can’t imagine how rare those buggers are down under! I’m well aware that I could just ask for another shrimp on my next steak at the Emus Beach Resort so that would need to me the one I’d hit.
