Our Travel Photographers Favourite Pictures From This Week

Last week we welcomed our new travel photographers, this week we’re inviting you to sample the fruits of their labour.

Our hardworking team have been on the road for a fair few days now hot footing it around Europe and Asia in search of some awesome images for our 2012/2013 brochures and are keen to share their experiences.

So we’ve tasked Ness, Louis and Dan to send us their favourite photo from the pile they have been snapping this week and include a few sentences to tell us why this image in particular stands out to them.

Our photographers - Ness, Louis and Dan

What are their favourite photos from their first week?

Ness

Ness's favourite photo taken in Rome

Where was it taken?

Down a side street whilst walking away from Campo di Fioro, in Rome.

What’s the story?

There were a bunch of kids teddies hanging out to dry on a washing line out of a flat, down a side street within a beautiful part of Rome.
Personally I like photos that are taken from below and it makes the viewer feel like they too are looking up. I altered the contrast levels and the colour saturation, in order to make the colours more vivid and the outlines of all objects within the frame stand out more and the fact that the tree is hanging above and therefore covering a third of the picture makes for a great composition.

Why is it your favourite photo from this week?

I’ve been walking around beautiful European cities for a week now, as you can imagine seeing all the tourist sights and they are just that because they’re aesthetically pleasing as well as the history involved etc. but the fact that this is a scene within a side street and that quite possibly will be missed by may is really satisfying; almost as if I discovered it.

Louis

Louis' favourite photo taken in Vietnam

Where was it taken?

Dong Xuan market, Vietnam.

What’s the story?

I got up at 5am to get there before most of the other tourists were out of bed. I’d definitely say this is a must do for any photographer or traveller who wants to see a place in it’s more natural state, before all the backpacker shops are open and doing business.

The early morning light was falling really nicely around the flower seller. The flowers and her dress caught the sun, and my attention; I took a light reading from the sun reflected from her hat, which is why the area around her is darker, and so draws the reader’s eye to the subject.

Why is it your favourite photo from this week?

There is none of the clutter of modern Vietnam; no sky scrapers, no mobile phones, and no mopeds. The hat obscuring her face gives a timeless quality creates a sense of allure and mystery, which is exactly what people come to Asia to find.

Dan

Dan's favourite photo taken in Paris

Where was it taken?

Paris during Bastille Day celebrations

What’s the story?

I came across a number of benches with members of the public standing on them trying to get a good view of proceedings along the Champs Elysees. I thought that it would make a strange image if I removed any reference to the celebrations and so made a conscious decision to take the photo from slightly sideways-face-on to the subjects, making sure I had no other passers-by in the background. To me they look like a strange bus stop of sorts! The fact that no one has a camera to their eye makes it more interesting as well I think and adds to the oddity of the scene.

Why is it your favourite photo from this week?

I love the obvious lack of context to the image. Also, the light is quite pleasing as it is soft and slightly diffused by the leaves on the trees. I’d like to think that this is how most Parisians spend their Saturday mornings!

Thanks so much guys, really impressive and creative images! The images taken by our photographers will be used in our 2012/2013 destination brochures but our current brochures are available to download directly to your computer now
