The Great Onesie Debate: Would You?

Is it ok to wear a onesie on a flight?

On his London bound flight after a whirlwind trip to Japan our blog editor Ant Stone found himself sitting next to a fellow traveller sporting this distinctive (and very comfy looking) choice of travel outfit.

Opinions were split here at STA Travel HQ so we opened up the debate on to our Facebook and Twitter pages and to say we got a strong response would be a bit of an understatement….

Hell Yeah!

Totally ok! Get comfy… Althea L (Facebook)

Depends how long the flight is…perfectly acceptable to wear on a flight that’s longer than 5 hours! Laura M (Facebook)

I had one on when I went to Cuba but the toilet was a tad annoying but I still put it on for the return journey. Adam L (Facebook)

Me and 12 fellow stags came back from Prague and we all had tigger onesies on. Went down really well! Was a pain at the security checks tho. Tom R (Facebook)

Yes! It’s so comfy, and that’s so important on long haul flights! And they are baggy so it doesn’t restrict circulation. Chloe Marie W (Facebook)

It’s a no go!

No because onesies are for babies….. Sara C (Facebook)

No.Definitely not. Onesies are not to be seen worn in public! Victoria C (Facebook)

No. Theres no way you would get a free upgrade if you were dressed in a onesie! Jamie M (Facebook)

No, only in the privacy of one’s own home should be the rule! Andrea M (Facebook)

Well, that’s as clear as mud! We’re still none the wiser when it comes to the Onesie on an airplane etiquette. What do you think? Drop us a comment below, and share your opinion with travellers across the nation.

Don’t think you can label onesies baby grows. Logically, it’s a set of trackies put into one, and just another outfit. Dam comfy one at that!

I am a big fan of onesies and would recommend them for long haul flights. I recently wore one on a long ferry crossing and kept having little kids running up to meet ‘pikachu’…will stick to wearing my onesie on planes or as a passenger on long drives if out and about.

Well if its a long flight then comfort over looking good all the way. If I were to wear a onesie it wouldn’t wear one that made me stand out too much!!

I couldn,t put my pyjamas on a flight as i dont wear any, so i think if an onesie is comfortable and warm it sounds a good idea, they do look a bit girlie, so not for me.

Yes I think it would be acceptable to wear a onesie on a flight, long journeys its important to be comfortable and onesie’s are very comfy indeed. Lots of people wore them on the ferry crossing last christmas so why not wear them on a plane swell :)

I was having this discussion with my friend before our flight to Vegas. Nobody cares what you look like when you’re flying so onesie all the way! Her mom said that’d we’d probably get arrested, so we opted against it. What I don’t understand is people that dress up to fly. You’re not going on a night out… leave the heels in the luggage!!

Wear the heels, your bag will weigh less ;)
My onesie is also a full sized pikachu costume with a hood and tail. Comfiest/most awesome thing ever. I would definitely wear it on a long flight. :)

I would not do it but I don’t see why not; it looks comfy enough to sleep in. The only inconvenient I can see is that the loos on board are very narrow and often dirty, so a bit messy if you have to drop this to the floor!

  11. I had this debate on the radio a couple of months ago, and I called up some airlines asking for their opinions.
