The term ‘up and coming’ is used a lot. You want to hear about the up and coming musicians? Sure, why not. The up and coming actors and actresses? Of course! The up and coming fashion designers, comedians, TV chefs, photographers and artists etc? Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes again.

Up and coming is unfamiliar, it’s unknown, it’s fun, it’s new, and there’s a glorious sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing about the next big thing before anyone else does.

So would you like to know the up and coming travel destinations that we think you can’t afford miss out on? Yep, we knew it. In no particular order, here they are…

The Temples of Bagan help Burma make the cut

1. Burma

With the recent dilapidation of its tough military state, beautiful Burma has become far more accessible, safe, and tourist friendly.

As it’s only faintly touched by back-packers, the country still offers a magical mixture of traditional Southeast Asian customs and colonial rule. Must sees are Bagan’s 4400 temples – a sight that rivals Angkor Wat – and the home of traditional leg rowing boats, Inle Lake.

2. Colombia

One of the lesser visited countries in South America, but for no good reason. Colombia is now far more tourist friendly than it has been in recent years, and offers up an exciting mix of Caribbean beaches, Amazon Jungle, coffee plantations aplenty, and some serious archaeological ruins.

What are you waiting for? Grab yourself cheap flight to Colombia asap.

3. Bangladesh

Bangladesh might evoke images of flood damaged disaster zones and poverty, and be seen as a country that is in constant need of a helping hand.

But did you know that this green and lush land is doing its utmost to increase its appeal, such as banning all petrol and diesel vehicles in its main regions, stopping the use of plastic bags creating some beautiful National Parks?

Plus, its already got tiger tours in the Sundarbans swamps, Buddhist Kingdoms, beautiful beaches, tea plantations, and it’s probably the cheapest place to travel in South Asia. So it’s safe to say this place is worth a visit.

5. Madagascar

Years of political instability has hampered the accessibility of Madagascar’s in recent years. But now it’s settled and the islands safe to see. South America’s most indigenous country boasts some spectacular Salt Flats and the infamous Yungas Road (Formerly know as ‘Death Road,’ but don’t let this put you off…). Unsurprisingly, the danger of this road makes it a prime tourism spot, and cycle tours are a popular choice for visitors.

Bolivia is one of the most unexplored countries of South America, but this land locked destination offers an abundance of off the beaten track sites and experiences that need to be seen, such as colonial cities, high altitude landscapes, and tropical jungles.
