On Sunday 9th February, 3 London based music student set off on a round the world trip with no budget, no set plans of where to stay or what to do, but a whole heap of excitement and one clear goal – to connect the world via music in 14 days.
Max De Lucia (21), Sophie English (22), and Elliott Lyte (22), launched their Around the World in 14 Days site in December as an experiment to test the power of social media, crowd-sourcing and their own resourcefulness.
(L-R) Max, Sophie and Elliot.
Max told us: “We’re all coming to the end of our degrees at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, and saw two free weeks in the calendar as an opportunity to think big and attempt the impossible – to get around the world in 14 days. It seemed there was nothing to lose and everything to gain.
When we launched the site we had no idea what would happen. The response that we’ve had to date has been phenomenal. Tens of thousands of people from across the world have checked out the project. People from all corners of the globe have written in inviting us to stay with them and have a desire to show us the way they live their lives.
In return for the hospitality, we are bringing music straight to the doorsteps of communities and cultures worldwide, putting the people of those places at the heart of the music that we make.”
To get the project off the ground (literally) Max contacted us here STA Travel, via twitter and a (kind of) plan was born.
Max added: “We’ve always known that the actual travel element of this project would be the difficult bit to sort out. To make matters even more complicated, one of the initial rules we gave ourselves was that we couldn’t spend a penny of our own money on the trip. At the time it seemed as though this would give the project that extra bit of spice but clearly it makes things very difficult for us.”
Our Creative Director, Tor, met with Max, and a month later, they’ve got their itinerary planned, flights booked and are off to discover the world in 14 days!
Max, Elliot and Sophie are currently in the midst of their epic journey visiting Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, New York and Sydney before flying back into London later this week.
