Cape Town is a vibrant city filled with so much to see and do – you could easily spend a week exploring and still not experience it all. So, just to get you started, we’ve broken down our top 5 must dos to make your visit to Cape Town an exciting one!

Cable Car Up Table Mountain

If you’ve got a full day, hiking Table Mountain is certainly worth doing. However, if you are a bit pressed for time, or you’re not quite up for it after a long night out in Cape Town’s club scene, riding a cable car up to the top is a perfectly acceptable short cut. However you get there, make sure you make the effort The views are phenomenal.

Shop the street markets

Sure, souvenir shops are fine, but walk through Cape Town’s street markets and you’ll find too many treasures to fit in your carry on! T-shirts, bags, pottery, wood and stone carvings, beaded jewellery, tribal masks, whatever you need to weigh down your bag, you’ll find it here.  Vendors expect to haggle with you so be prepared to use your best negotiation skills to find a great bargain.

Spend the day in the Cape Winelands

Leave the bustling city streets behind and take a tour of the Cape Winelands region. The scenery is truly breathtaking, with rows and rows of vines planted hundreds of years ago. There are plenty of wine estates to satisfy even the most discriminating tastes, and there’s even a hop-on, hop-off tram so no designated driver required! When you’ve had your fill, soak up all that wine with a delicious meal from any of the world-class restaurants around you.

Dine at The Africa Café

Speaking of dining, we have a personal favourite to recommend right in the heart of downtown Cape Town: The Africa Café. Specializing in communal feasting, this lively three-story restaurant serves up the ultimate tastes of South Africa. Sample authentic dishes from all around the continent like Cassava bread and Umngqusho, while singers and drummers surround you with the rhythms of traditional African songs.

 Go Whale Watching

We love a good beach day as much as the next guy, but getting out on the water and taking advantage of the incredible whale watching South Africa has to offer is an absolute must.

Cape Point - Great spot for Whale Watching

Peak whale watching season is from June to November, but many species of whales and dolphins can be seen year-round. It’s breathtaking to see these amazing animals in their natural habitat, interacting with one another, hunting, rearing their young and even playing together in their family pods.
