Let’s talk Vancouver…

Imagine yourself, standing on the rocky Canadian shoreline – fog snaking into the valleys and trees swaying against the wind, taking in the grand scale of Canada and its overwhelming beauty. The diversity of its landscapes; rocky fjords, high mountain peaks, vast prairie and arctic tundra, offering countless ways for you to unleash your inner adventurer. A multicultural melting pot with lively nightlife districts. The one thing you won’t be short of here is space, whether you’re looking for extreme solitude or to push your limits, Canada offers it all…

There are countless ways for you to enjoy Canada. Out west, you can ski and snowboard in Whistler or Banff, go whale spotting or bear viewing on Vancouver Island, or jump in a helicopter for remote hiking trips in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Overwhelmed? Don’t worry, we have put together a 4 part guide of our top experiences around Canada so you can be sure to get the most of your trip.

Let’s talk Vancouver…

Vancouver is one of the world’s most beautifully-located cities, every bit an equal to the likes of Sydney and Rio de Janeiro. The downtown skyscrapers are framed by the beaches of English Bay and the rainforests of Stanley Park, and set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks. Vancouver doesn’t have to try hard to impress, here are our top picks to experience the best Vancouver has to offer.

1)Food truck fix

Food trucks are a social phenomenon, and one that hasn’t passed us by. From the classic chip truck to the high end French bistro selling escargot; this trend has exploded across North America and Canada. Which isn’t surprising given Vancouver’s wealth of culinary diversity. Let your nose and taste buds guide around the city and dine on some of the most delicious food we’ve ever tasted. We’d highly recommend grabbing a lamb kebab from Mangal Kiss.

2)Views from above

If you’re looking to get your scenery fix and are not scared of heights, then the sky is limit. Get a bird’s eye view of the stunning scenery on Canada’s flyover (a simulated flight ride!) – The longest one in the world. Hold on tight, and settle into your seat as you career over snow-capped mountains and green forests. In need of something a bit more thrilling? Then experience the exhilaration of flying down steel zip lines, high above the breath-taking white-water river that divides the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Or, if you are a complete daredevil – the Capilano Suspension Bridge will be sure to get your heart pounding at 230 feet.

3)Wildlife and whale watching

On the water, on the land and in the air, the Vancouver Island region is home to all kinds of wonderful creatures. From grizzlies, whales and wolves – Canada’s Amazon is one of the most haunting, unforgettable and enchanting forests you could ever hope to see. The true wilderness can only be reached by boat or float plane, which is an adventure in itself – ambling around ancient trees, glacial waterfalls and the rocky headlands of the Great Bear Rainforest. If you’re out in the Vancouver woods, be sure to check out the bear habitat on Grouse Mountain, or embark on a Wildlife Safari excursion in the Howe Sound, departing from Horeshoe Bay. Still struggling with something to do? How about a Whale Watching trip departing from Richmond – a truly alternative experience to add to your Canadian adventure.

4)Get your skates on

Okay, this isn’t for everyone, but Vancouver has been taken over by an emerging extreme sport: off-road rollerblading. The thick rainforests on the north shore, have typically been a mountain biker’s paradise with their wooden ramps, turns and jumps but locals seem to be turning in their two wheels for something more avant-garde. The ultimate, alternative way to explore the beauty of Vancouver’s trails.

If this hasn’t made you want to throw yourself into a Canadian adventure, we don’t know what will – maybe flights from £325? You can also use our deposit scheme to secure your flights for £49 whilst you plan your trip.

We live near Newcastle upon Tyne ,NE England, and wish to have a months visit to Vancouver Island where our long time friends in Nanaimo have asked us to stay with them, we are looking for a budget flight for two with the possibility of taking in Yellowstone USA and flying home from Denver or Salt Lake City, time of year is flexible, what BARGAIN prices can you offer for Senior Citizens, We also have friends in Perth Australia to see if you can suggest anything for that too, Many thanks from Bob
