We’re bringing you a homage to all the greats that have graced the Bestival stage over the last 12 years. Oh boy there have been some good ones! From the likes of Amy Winehouse to the Beastie Boys and The Prodigy to The Cure.
So let’s throwback to some classic line ups and get a little bit BUZZING for this year’s Bestival!
2004: Basement Jaxx
An English electronic music duo made up of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe. They’ve had some absolute bangers, Bingo Bango, Rendez-Vous, Oh my Gosh, Red Alert and Romeo to name a few!
2005: Super Furry Animals
A Welsh psychedelic rock band, consisting of Gruff Rhys (lead vocals, guitar), Huw Bunford (lead guitar, vocals), Guto Pryce (bass guitar), Cian Ciaran (keyboards, synthesisers, various electronics) and Dafydd Ieuan (drums, vocals). Also actor Rhys Ifans was a former member… you may recognise him as Spike from Notting Hill. Classic hits include Fuzzy Logic, Radiator and Guerilla.
2006: Pet Shop Boys
An English electronic pop duo consisting of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. They have sold more than 50 million records worldwide and the band are listed as the most successful UK duo in history by the Guiness Book of Records. Their big tunes include West End Girls, an acclaimed cover of Always on My Mind and Go West plus loads more!
2007: Beastie Boys
The Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City. The band is made up of Michael “Mike D” Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam “MCA” Yauch (vocals, bass) and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz (vocals, guitar). They were one of the longest-lived hip hop acts worldwide. Hits include Intergalactic, (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) and Sabotage.
2008: Amy Winehouse
A national treasure known for her deep, expressive, soulful vocals. Tragically lost at only 27 years old. Her biggest hits include Rehab, Back to Black and Love is a Losing Game.
These guys are an American psychedelic rock consisting of Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. Two classic tunes are Electric Feel and Kids. Electric Feel won “Best Remixed Recording” at the Grammys.
2010: Dizzee Rascal
He’s a British rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and absolute legend. His biggest tracks include Dance wiv Me, Bonkers”, Holiday, Dirtee Disco and Shout.
2011: The Cure
An English rock band part of the post-punk, new wave era. Known for massive tunes such as Friday I’m in Love, Boys don’t Cry and Just Like Heaven. A proper English 80s band you just gotta love.
2012: Florence and the Machine
Not just one lady as many might assume, the band actually consists of Florence Welch (lead vocals), Isabella Summers (keyboardist) and many other artists with whom they collaborate with. Their songs are big belters, including Dog Days Are Over, You’ve Got the Love and Spectrum (Say My Name).
2013: Snoop Dogg
Formerly known as Snoop Doggy Dogg. Snoop is an American rapper from Long Beach, California, he was discovered by Dr. Dre and has sold over 23 million albums. Big tunes include What’s My Name?, Gin & Juice and Drop it like it’s Hot.
2014: Chic featuring Nile Rodgers
Chic is a disco, funk and soul band formed in the 70s by world famous guitarist Nile Rodgers (check his collab with Daft Punk and Pharrell). Chic performed in front of the world’s biggest disco ball and were fabulous! Hits include Everybody Dance, Le Freak, I Want Your Love and Good Times.
2015: Duran Duran
Another classic 80s band, Duran Duran are an English new wave/synthpop 5 piece. You’ll recognise loads of their hits, I’m sure your dad plays them in the car. For example Rio, Hungry like the Wolf and Save a Prayer – don’t pretend you don’t know them!
