High Five… Madagascar!

Languishing in the Indian Ocean, 250 miles off the coast of mainland Africa is Madagascar, a luscious tropical island famous for its vanilla, coffee and spectacular wildlife.

Madagascar broke away from mainland Africa 88 million years ago and as a result, 90% of its plant and animal species are found nowhere else in the world. The most famous of these are its lemurs which hold huge dance parties deep in the rainforests (probably true) and which, before the arrival of humans, used to grow to the size of gorillas (actually true).

To protect its fragile eco system, the island has over twenty national parks and dozens of nature reserves just waiting to be explored as well as a vast array of tropical beaches and fascinating traditional customs. Here’s our pick of five fantastic experiences…
