STA Travel Blog

Can a Travel Romance go the Distance?

Today’s blog comes from Liz who flew off on her first great adventure 10 years ago…

The 31st Jan 2005 was the day I got on the plane for my post-uni big trip. I’d booked to go to a conservation project in Belize and, when I was sent my STA ticket a few days before jetting off, I found I’d been seated next to some random guy. For 10 hours. I distinctly remember speaking to my mum about it and thinking “why on earth is this Christopher Peacock on my ticket?! I hope he’s nice, I’ve got to sit next to him”…

17 Adventure Tours Under £800

It’s a well worn myth that you need to empty your purse into a black hole in order to really see the world. Yes, if you want to spend 10 months flying to 12 countries it is going to cost a bit (though not quite as much as you might think), but you’d be genuinely surprised how much you can see of the world in less than 2 weeks on a budget.

It’s important to remember that the prices below don’t include international flights so you will need to budget for those as well as some meals and optional activities. But with transport, accommodation & loads of other inclusions, these adventures represent a big chunk of your trip budget. They’re also all small group experiences (most with an average of 14 people) so you can really get off the beaten track and into areas it’s very hard to reach solo.

Surviving travel as a couple

Today’s blog comes from Ryan and Lucy Williams who booked with STA Travel last year and had one epic adventure!

Travelling as a couple is a totally different beast compared with going it alone or heading out with a group of friends. Knowing how to tame that beast is the key to coexisting and thriving on an adventure with your other half.

We took an eight month journey from Rio to Malaysia, a trial by (exceedingly hot) fire, and at the beginning we honestly had no idea what ‘real’ travelling actually meant! Sure, we had been on holiday together lots over the course of the years and this was just a really long holiday…right?
