STA Travel Blog

Can a Travel Romance go the Distance?

Today’s blog comes from Liz who flew off on her first great adventure 10 years ago…

The 31st Jan 2005 was the day I got on the plane for my post-uni big trip. I’d booked to go to a conservation project in Belize and, when I was sent my STA ticket a few days before jetting off, I found I’d been seated next to some random guy. For 10 hours. I distinctly remember speaking to my mum about it and thinking “why on earth is this Christopher Peacock on my ticket?! I hope he’s nice, I’ve got to sit next to him”…

Why Giving Everything Up to go Travelling is *STILL* the Best Decision I’ve Ever Made

Saxon Yuen gave up a job he loved to follow his dream. With one year and a lot of experience under his belt he’s back to let us know if we should all consider throwing our keyboards out of the window too…

About a year ago I quit, not only a promising career, but a job I loved. I waved goodbye to my friends and left my apartment, my city, my favourite Chinese takeaway – my whole life as I knew it – in order to travel and chase down a dream.

I wrote about it here and apparently it’s been a bit of a hit (thanks guys) so the masters of the blog have asked me for a little follow up. Am I still going? Is life still good? Work America – Memories of Hawaii

Today’s blog comes from Jules Sanderson who worked in Hawaii for a summer with Work America

If someone had told me a few years ago I would spend a summer living and working on a Hawaiian Island I would never have believed them. But this year that’s exactly what I did! After finding my job as a receptionist on the island of Oahu (with a lot of emails and a Skype interview) I booked my tickets to The Aloha State.

On the plane over I remember mumbling the place names to myself, trying to work out how to pronounce them and worrying I’d never get them right. Three months later they flew off my tongue like I was Kama’āina (a local)!
