India is gearing up for something very exciting. From today, its people will take to the streets, start bonfires, have a few drinks, throw brightly coloured powder (gulal) at each other, get a soaking with coloured water fired from syringes, buckets and balloons, and generally have a right old time of it.

It sounds mental; hey, it is a bit mental. It’s a legitimate reason to act like a complete lunatic, and it can only mean one thing: Holi festival 2013 has arrived.

The most animated Hindu festival, Holi is the Festival of Colours – a celebration of the beginning of Spring, and of the victory of good over bad. It’s mostly celebrated in the north of India, as well as Nepal, and though each region has its own approach to Holi, the powder-throwing and water-soaking are staple features.

Holi is a truly unique and exciting time to be in India, and as a tourist, it’s a given that you’ll be hit with more than your fair share of the gulal! So throw on your oldest clothes and prepare to get involved.

The Spanish people really know how to enjoy life, and you can’t help but to absorb and project this mantra yourself through every pore when visiting Spain.

This is a country that practically pulsates with passion, excitement and a zest for life. The Spanish are immensely proud of their history and their culture and it’s not hard to see why.
