5 spots to get your live music fix in Melbourne

Sydney may have the glamour and glitz of the Harbour and Bondi, and Brisbane may have endless sand and backpacker bar-crawl carnage but every Aussie knows cosmopolitan Melbourne is the place to go for some electrifying live music. Victoria’s capital has always had more of a communal vibe and its music scene has consistently led the way Down Under.

You’ll find local bands testing out their own tunes at practically every other pub North of the Yarra River, whilst Southside has loads of breezy, open bars with polished outfits banging out covers. With so much to choose from, you can almost feel like you’re lost on a musical Walkabout, so we’re here to help!

From classic rock dives to sophisticated jazz bars, here’s our five favourite venues to check out in marvellous Melbs!

1. Prince Bandroom, St Kilda.

We have to start with this legendary spot in the Prince Of Wales pub on Fitzroy Street. It’s been hosting eclectic live music for 60 years now and is a Melbourne institution. Dark and grungy with a low stage and ceiling that crams everyone into a heaving, rocking mass, it’s exactly the authentic no-frills experience that draws everyone in town here at some point or another.

KYKO – STA Travel Sounds artist of the month

The music scene in London just keeps better! The capital is heaving with so many exciting young artists, KYKO included. South London-born and raised Verrill, a multi-instrumentalist with a feverish passion for experimenting, has been crafting noise since reaching his teens. Raised in a household rife with the sounds of Paul Simon and British bands like The Jam, Verrill strives to combine his musical background with his passion for modern pop music and it’s ever-evolving form.

When we first heard KYKO’s music we loved his sound so much that we invited him to play at the STA Travel Sounds stage at this years Bestival festival.

Teenage Cancer Trust & STA Travel: Supporting Young People With Cancer Worldwide

At STA Travel, we help millions of young travellers explore the world each year. Yet every day in the UK, around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer.

These young people are friends, family and colleagues of the STA Travel community, who require expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word cancer.

In 2015, STA Travel formed a partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust and other charities around the world to help spread awareness and raise vital funds. Our CEO John Constable said: “There are specific challenges that come with having cancer when you are young. Normal life is suddenly turned upside down and treatment prevents you from socialising, playing sports and travelling. We want to spread the word about Teenage Cancer Trust, and their important work in bringing young people for treatment in a home-away-from-home-environment”.
