7 Things Not to Miss in Hong Kong!

Hong Kong is a crossroads. A metropolitan melting pot where east meets west, island-life meets the mainland and tradition meets modernity. Look hard enough and within the high-rise buildings you’ll find little gems of architecture including Chinese temples, colonial residences and even the odd zoo. Oh and the world’s longest outdoor covered escalator, but more on that in a minute. Then there’s Kowloon, an urban sprawl that seeps out into the New Territories before connecting to Mainland China. There are also over 200 outlying Islands that can only be accessed by boat. Despite all of its diversity many people rush through Hong Kong, spending no more than a couple of days in the city before travelling onward. Take your time, no need to rush.

Here are our top seven things to do in Hong Kong:

Shakedown: Perth

Unlike its eastern cousins, Perth is a big city in Aus which you may not know a whole lot about. Commonly referred to as the “most isolated major city in the world” (actually Honolulu but a tiny island in the middle of the pacific is kinda cheating we reckon), Perth’s remoteness has actually resulted in a fantastically diverse, culturally rich city with a youthful, adventurous vibe.

Skyscrapers, Souqs and Sweet Milk – Emirates Insider Dubai

Today’s blog comes from Alistair Lee – a Travel Expert from our UK Contact Centre who headed out to Dubai in February as our Emirates Insider.

When I was asked to go out on a trip to Dubai and be followed by a camera crew for a few days I was, well, apprehensive to say the least! Not because of the destination, I’ve been to Dubai 6 or 7 times so I was confident that I could find my way around and show off the best things to do, but being filmed on the beach in my green shorts was a different matter entirely. They are mine by the way, and I know they look great.

12 Festivals For Your 2015 Wish List

The chill of winter is (finally) beginning to clear and, if you’re anything like us at STA Travel Towers, your thoughts are turning towards a time when your white white toes will see the light of day in fancy flip flops.

And with the coming light nights and hot(ish) days comes thoughts of festivals. While the UK is still an amazing musical hub (and we’ve included a couple here for good patriotic measure) European festivals really are amazing when it comes to value for money, hot line ups and, sometimes, more reliable sunshine.

Summer is coming…you better be ready.

Emirates Insider – Milan

Today’s blog comes from Tom Fenton, a Travel Expert from our Victoria Store, who in October 2014 was picked to be one of 4 Emirates Insiders and sent to explore Milan…with a little help from you.

I’d worked in our central London store for a year and a half when I was chosen to travel as an Emirates Insider to Milan. Despite travelling all over the world I’d never been to Northern Italy so when I got the call there was no way I was saying no. Plus I’m very photogenic (stop giggling).

We all know that if someone’s actually been to a destination and can recommend something then it can really help you get under the skin of the city and we tapped into our Facebook community to get their thoughts on Milan’s top sites. I loved reading the comments before jetting off to plan my adventure…
