Store Managers Review: Top Travel Trends Of 2012

They’re the driving force behind STA Travel, leading our UK team of experts from the front, to make sure you get the best service possible. They’re passionate about what they do, and no one knows more about travelling the world than them (except maybe David Attenborough).

With that in mind, I thought it would be nice to share their thoughts about the past year in travel with you. I’ve gone to 16 of our store managers from around the UK and asked them to give me a brief and general insight of a travel trend they have noticed in 2012.

Have a read, digest it, and have a think about what these insights could mean to you as a traveller, or potential traveller. Has this inside knowledge made you think about making any amendments your own travel plans? Maybe they’ve managed to make you even more excited than you were already?

Happy 1st Birthday To The Blog! Here are our best bits…

Happy birthday to us, happy birthday to us, happy birthday to the amazingly, awesome, STA Travel Blo-og! Haaaaaappy birthday to us!

Yep that’s right, incase you didn’t quite catch on already; this month marks the 1st birthday of the STA Travel Blog; and what a year it’s been.

Myself, Ant and Emma love all things travel, and we love to write about travelling, but we have not done it by ourselves, not buy a long shot.

We’re lucky enough to have struck travel blog gold in the form of our knowledgeable Travel Experts. Between them there’s barely an area of the globe that hasn’t been explored and we’ve rinsed them for their best, most inspirational, stories, tips and advice to share with you in the hope that they might help to enrich your own experiences.

My Australia: Victoria

What do you want your Australian adventure to deliver? Cool city living? Captivating wildlife? Superb beaches? Tonnes of adventure? The southern state of Victoria has it all.

Melbourne is the jewel in Victoria’s crown. It’s a magnet for a trendy laid back crowd and rich in arts, live music, chilled out cafes and some of the best (if not the best) shopping in Australia.

This amazing city maybe one of the top ‘must visits’ for any self respecting traveller but isn’t all Victoria has to offer – not by a long shot.

And on that note, let me introduce you to Kathryn, 27, from Nottingham. She can’t help but sing the praises of Victoria. She loves it, and she tells us why below, in the hope that she can inspire you to experience it for yourself.

My Australia: New South Wales

We love Australia. Fact. I mean, why wouldn’t we? It’s a country filled with stunningly diverse scenery, beautiful coral reefs, amazing wildlife, incredible beaches and super cool cities.

It’s no wonder so many of us poms spend our time day dreaming about packing up and heading off on a dream trip to Oz.

Over the next few weeks we will be meeting various travellers who, for reasons they will explain, have fallen head over heals in love with the land down under. They’ll tell us in their own words about the highlight of their experience and why they found it so incredible.

Today, Tom Denning, 25, who currently works at a London university, shares the story of his own Aussie adventure in New South Wales.

Heeeeeeeere’s Tom!

How To Take Great Travel Photos

Photos from travelling adventures of the past are likely to be one our most treasured possessions in the years to come.

Everyone tries desperately to capture a moment in time, an incredible view or the essence of a amazing place they have passed through.

Back in July 2012, we introduced you to 3 talented and exciting up and coming graduate photographers, who would soon be hitting the open road in search of some awesome travel photos to be used in our Asia and Europe brochures.

Louis Leeson, was one of those photographers. Having scored a first in his photojournalism degree at the London College of Communication, he’s recently returned from a month travelling around Asia and has submitted some fantastic shots as a result.
