What is an Australian Working Holiday?

A working holiday allows young British citizens to gain short term employment as well as travel around Australia for an initial period of up to twelve months.

How long can I stay in Australia for?

Initially you will be permitted to stay for a maximum period of twelve months from the date you enter the country and can work for any one employer for a maximum of six months. If you wish to stay in Australia for longer, you may be able to qualify for a second year visa if you have completed the required amount of three months agricultural work.

What is the average wage in Australia?

If you're a waiter, waitress or barista in Australia, you can expect to earn anything between $17 and $25 per hour - that's between £10-15! Casual corporate hospitality contracts in Melbourne can even pay minimum of $25. 

Expect to earn up to $30 per hour for office admin, or even more for skilled jobs such as marketing, call centre or sales. 

Is there an age limit for Working Holiday Visas?

Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of applying for the visa.

What kind of jobs can I do in Australia?

The Working Holiday Visa allows you to work in all types of jobs, depending on your skills and preference. Popular roles are within the tourism, hospitality and agricultural sectors. A local Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate is usually required for bar work.

How much money do I need to take with me to Australia?

Upon entry to Australia you will need to be able to prove that you have funds to the equivalent of $5,000 Australian Dollar to support yourself.
