FAM trips

Did you know you can also go on free trips? Our 2016 apprentices enjoyed an all-expenses paid trip as part of their apprenticeship. The Haggis Tour they went on is the best way to get a real feel of Scotland. From the castles, festivals, bag-pipes and gothic architecture of Edinburgh to the idyllic lochs and glens of the Scottish Highlands.

See what our previous apprentices have to say about their experiences so far:

Carly Dean - 2012 Apprentice

Carly joined us in 2012 in our busy Manchester store working with some of the top sellers in the country! This gave Carly some invaluable experience as well as exposure to our Contact Centre, B2B and B2C. From this, Carly joined our Group Teams and is now our Groups Team Manager which is her biggest achievement yet! Within four years Carly has gone from being one of our first apprentices, to experiencing Thailand for the annual Global Bash and is now managing the Groups Team!

"An apprenticeship is a great way to kick start your career and work your way up to get where you want to gaining great knowledge and experiences along the way!"

Mog Lewin – 2012 Apprentice

Mog joined our first ever intake of apprentices in 2012! Mog started off in our Nottingham store and a few years later is working as an Assistant Manager in New Zealand… AMAZING!
Her favourite memory is winning a trip to Thailand when she was a Travel Expert in Nottingham.

"Hard work is all worth it! This is a real opportunity to earn as well as have fun with room to grow!"

Apprenticeships: Frequently asked questions

What's the recruitment process like?

Online application > invite to video interview > invite to recruitment event > invite to interview > successful candidates invited to a half day in store > offer made > HIRED!

When would I start?

Our Apprenticeship scheme usually begins at the end of August. Our application process starts in March; the process can take a while. Start dates will be confirmed in advance once offer is made.

What hours will I be working?

You will be contracted to complete a 37.5 hour week but what days and hours you work, depends on where you work. You will be asked to work the same hours as your full time colleagues, which may involve shift work, working on a Sunday, public holidays or working extended opening hours if you are based in a shopping centre. Your study time and training courses will be incorporated into your working week.

What training will I get?

As an Apprentice you will receive both on and off the job training. Most of your training will be on the job and therefore at your place of work however there will be occasions when you are required to travel to one of our many training venues for off the job training where you will get the chance to meet and train with other STA Travel Apprentices. These training courses may involve you travelling on public transport, which will be paid for by STA Travel.

What sort of work will I be doing?

If you are based in one of our many retail stores / sales centres you will be training to become a qualified Travel Expert, where your key responsibility is to maximise all sales opportunities whilst ensuring you sell the right product to meet the customer needs and remain totally customer focused. You will be working with the modules built for the programme during your day to day role and then you will be set monthly sales and performance targets to achieve towards the end of the programme and therefore good communication skills are essential. You will be taught how to use the internal booking systems, therefore IT skills are beneficial. However, full training will be given.

What qualifications can I gain?

You can gain a qualification in Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Travel & Tourism and Functional / Core Skills Level 2 Maths and English (If required).
