Over the past few weeks we have bought you numerous tales from our hard working group of eager young STA Travel apprentices, and today sees the final installment of the series.
Yasmin Siloy is 20 and works in our Reading branch. She joined STA Travel as someone who had no experience working in travel before, but had heaps to offer in terms of her drive and passion for helping others realise their travel ambitions.
She has now become a valued and successful member of the STA Travel family with a promising future in the travel industry ahead of her.
She’s here to share the details of her role as one of our fantastic apprentices and to explain why she loves, not only her job, but all things travel in general.
Say hello to Yasmin!
What were you doing before applying for this role at STA Travel?
I was working part time at BANK the fashion retailer before I started working for STA Travel. It was a job to keep me going after I had come back from travelling.
Why did you decide to apply for this apprentice position?
I really wanted work within the travel industry and was finding it very hard to get in, after ages of applying for jobs, I came across the apprentice position with STA Travel.
I thought that this would be a brilliant way to get into the industry and allow me learn even more about travel. I’d booked with STA Travel in the past and found that they were really good with a friendly vibe. This made me want to work for the company even more.
Yasmin travelled to New Zealand before starting her role at STA Travel
Have you done any travelling before?
I am slowly finding out that I’m not as well travelled as many others within the company, but have visited a few places, including Thailand, New Zealand, Barbados, Dubai, lots of those popular European countries and a few more.
Where would you like to travel to in the future?
I would love to travel to Africa. I know that Africa is a huge continent but I want to do all of it, from top to bottom! I want to experience the different cultures, food and way of life.
I would also love to visit Japan, in particular Tokyo, just to see the vast number of people living within the city and experience the whole ‘other world’. Travelling outside of the city would be great as well – seeing some of Japans culture and history is very appealing to me.
What do you enjoy most about working at STA Travel?
The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to speak to customers, getting to know them, and helping with their travel plans.
What’s your favourite thing about your job at STA Travel?
That I am able to have a hand in the planning of someone’s dream trip.

Why do you feel passionately about travel, why would you encourage people to travel?
I feel that travelling opens the mind to different ways of life, cultures and experiences and I think that everyone should experience this. Whether that involves going to Europe or heading a bit further a field and travelling around the world!
It’s also a really good way to meet new people and gives you something so interesting to talk about when you come home.
