Journey to the outback: Meet Alex Stead

Painted with a palette of earthy coppers and crimson sunsets, the Outback in Northern Territory is one of the most dramatic places on Earth. A picture is worth a thousand words so we are sending photographer’s Alex Stead & Henry Nathan over to Australia to capture the iconic sights. Before Alex packs his bags we caught up to find out more about him and what he is looking forward to the most on this trip.

Hi, I’m Alex (@nikon_photography) a travel and adventure photographer based in London and Cornwall. Since the age of 13, photography has been a big part of my life, studying it all the way through school and then University. Travel has always been a big part of my life and it’s something which I wanted to do more of…photography has really allowed me to do this.

In my photography I focus on symmetry, reflections and lines within nature and cities. I like to keep my work really clean and simple, easy to look at and instantly understandable. Having social media has allowed me to learn how to capture people’s imaginations and attentions especially with so much imagery being shared each day.

Australia has got to be on anyone’s list to visit! I’m really looking forward to the adventure and wildness of this trip, seeing the contrast of the waterfalls to the landscape which surrounds them! 4X4 is also high up on my list as I love adventure and off road. From any trip I go on, and especially this one, it is to create the most inspiring and epic set of photos which inspires people to want to visit themselves.

My favourite destination has to be the Faroe Islands. It was just such an adventure and hardly any tourists which I love! Getting up early to see these places empty is the best! Top tip for seeing a country is to drive, this year alone I’ve driven 12 countries and has to be the most amazing way of travelling as you can stop whenever you like! I think the next place I really want to go next is the Maldives or Canada in the winter.

I always make sure I have an epic playlist to hand whilst on the road. My favourite has to be G-eazy and a tropical house mix for the road… weird combination I know!
